Hi! Sorry for the late post today. I had my last classes of my first year of university today, so I've basically just been basking in the temporary freedom before exams. There's quite a bit to say about today's nails, so I'm just going to jump right in. I wanted to play with texture by trying to paint some wood paneling. I used a variety of techniques to achieve the finished look, but I'm not sure if I got the wood texture right. The colouring is also darker than I wanted, so I'm a bit disappointed with how they turned out.
I decided to go a bit beachy after finishing the wood by pairing it with tropical-looking florals. These ones are inspired by Mr.Candiipants. I changed it up by combining it with the watercolour technique to give the flowers more detail.
For the wood, I started with OPI San Tan-Tonio. Then I applied a streaky layer of OPI My Vampire Is Buff, topped with another thin layer of OPI San Tan-Tonio. I applied streaks of polish in OPI My Vampire Is Buff and OPI You Don't Know Jacques, thinning that with acetone. Then I took a striping brush, thinned the polish with acetone and added details to the wood. For the floral nails I started with OPI My Vampire Is Buff. I painted the petals using the polish brushes from American Apparel T-Shirt, American Apparel Sunset Blvd and American Apparel The Valley. I made the leaves with American Apparel Mac Arthur Park. I thinned all of this out with acetone.
In the end this manicure was a lot of work, but I'm still on the fence about it. Let me know what you think! :)
