Striking Gold

I knew that I wanted to do a manicure using OPI I Don't Give A Rotterdam because it looked so very pretty in the bottle. Once I had it on my nails I was pretty stumped for a design but fell in love with the subtle golden shimmer. I decided to accentuate the shimmer with another untried polish and finished it off with a bit of chunky glitter at the tips. As soon as I was done I knew that I should have sponged a solid gold polish on the tips first. I think it would have looked so much nicer but it was too late ):

I layered Essie As Gold As It Gets over OPI I Don't Give A Rotterdam! with Sephora by OPI Only Gold For Me on the tips.

Hope you like this quick glitter manicure and for tomorrow, happy leap day!

Pearls & Springtime Ruffian

Hi friends! I recently hauled some new polishes from spring collections and wanted to try them out. I figured that I haven't done a Ruffian manicure in awhile so why not? As much as I love doing this style it makes me really nervous. I'm always worried that my coats will be too thick or my curves will be uneven! In fact, the coats of green creme were a bit uneven at the borders so I added those dots to hide it (Shh, don't tell!) I hauled a wheel of half pearls so I added those on as accents. I'm pleased with this springtime manicure, it turned out pretty cute!

To start I painted all of my nails with OPI Pedal Faster Suzi!. Then I painted on the Ruffian with Essie Navigate Her. I used a dotting tool and white polish for the dots and added the half pearls on my ring fingers and thumbs.

Thanks for looking! Oh! You may or may not have seen my last quick post but I'm back to being active on Twitter! Feel free to follow me @preciouspolish and I'll follow back. I really want to get to know you all so tweet me (: <3

Twitter, Anyone?

Hey all! Does anyone have Twitter here? I'd love to follow you!

I used to manage two accounts, a private one for 'real life' and a public one for this blog. That proved to be too overwhelming so I decided to permanently move to my public account for both usages.

I'd love to get to know all of you! You can find me by the name @preciouspolish. Looking forward to chatting with you there and happy tweeting!

Fresh As A Daisy

Here's a simple and quick floral mani against a nude background. It's cute but now that it's been photographed it's going to be removed from my fingers :P
Remember when I said that I wanted to try to post more frequently? It seems that I spoke too soon because I promptly got slammed with school work after that. My physics teacher is particularly cynical. In Canada we have a holiday today called Family Day. Since it gave us a long weekend he gave us a homework package entitled 'Family Day Special' :P

I used Essie Sand Tropez to start with a white striping polish and American Apparel Manila for the flowers and dots.

Hope you all had a lovely start to your week and to my fellow Canadians, a wonderful long weekend!

Be Mine, Valentine

So lately I've been trying to post more frequently and so far it's been working! I really hope that I can continue to keep up at this pace.
Anyway here's my final manicure for Valentine's Day. I brought back the heart frames but to save myself the despair of painting them on all ten nails I used them as an accent instead. On the rest of the nails I did some little rosettes which came out exactly how I envisioned. I also tried to apply polish neater around my cuticles. With all of that working out quite successfully, I'm very pleased with these nails! (:

I painted all of my nails with OPI Alpine Snow. I used Art Club Lilac to paint the heart frames and some of the rosettes. For the peach rosettes I used Essie Van D'Go and American Apparel Office for the leaves.

So that's it from me for Valentine's Day! I hope you enjoyed all of these love-themed manicures (:
I want to wish you all a lovely Valentine's Day whether you are with a special someone, family, friends or just a good movie (:

One Direction

Yes, you read that right: I did just use the name of a teenage boy band as a post title. And yes, you are correct if to assume that this manicure is related to the band. And dingdingding! correct again if you guessed that I have the boys' faces on my nails! :D
My infatuation with the lovely British boys from One Direction started last summer. If you haven't heard of them then please go check them out. The band started off on the X Factor so they really can sing! They all have great voices and even better looks ;) They're currently taking over North America and I can't get enough of them. My favourite song from their album, Up All Night, is probably One Thing. You can watch the music video here or watch the acoustic version!

So back on topic: I figured that with five boys and five nails there was no way that I could pass up this idea. In fact, I wonder why I hadn't thought of this earlier!
The method involved printing tiny pictures of the boys' faces onto a piece of newsprint. Then I used dipped each image into rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) and rolled it onto my nail to transfer it. I'm not sure if it was the paper, the ink or the method but the images didn't transfer very cleanly. Still, I think they're quite recognizable and remind me almost of an old film strip... in colour... or something.

I used OPI Alpine Snow on all nails. From thumb to little finger we have Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik.

I hope you like these fun nails as much as I do!
Do you like One Direction? What are your favourite songs and who are your favourite boys? ;) For me it's a tie between Zayn and Louis but I do love them all <3

Thanks for dealing with my lengthy fangirling and see you next time!

Window To My Heart

I just posted yesterday but here's another! I exercise no self-control and couldn't resist posting this right away :)

Personally, it's too soon for me to pull out the big guns for Valentine-themed manicures. With that in mind I opted for something simple: nude hearts with a black frame. It was pretty difficult to execute this design because it was all free-handed and I got pretty impatient. The perfect heart is quite challenging to paint ten times and most of them are still far from perfect. Overall though, I'm pleased with the outcome. I think it looks very chic! (:

I started off with Essie Topless & Barefoot and free-handed the hearts with a black striping polish.

Rosy Flush

I can't believe we're already into February! This means that January is over and a new semester has begun. I'll be relatively stress-free for awhile so I hope to catch up on some posting!
The entrance of February also means that Valentine's Day is near! I don't care much for it but I do enjoy cute themed manicures.
To kick things off here's a simple rosy glitter gradient. Last weekend I participated in a kind of cotillion and the dress I had to wear was a nice sangria colour. These nails were just the right balance of simplicity and glitz to match my attire.
Check out the post "TUTORIAL: Glitter Gradient"to see how I do glitter gradients in a video tutorial.

Here I used Seche Chemise with China Glaze Sex On The Beach, Quo by Orly Precious and Essie A Cut Above sponged on the tips.

I hope February is treating you all well so far!
