I ♥ Tribal

I've got two of four exams finished so I decided to treat myself to a nice manicure. I know that in approximately 24 hours I will deeply regret not spending that time studying but I'm living in the moment :)
I feel like I haven't done any intricate nail art in a while so this was a refreshing change. The colours remind me of Easter eggs and coincidentally, this manicure matches my new layout quite nicely. It's very spring-time appropriate which is ironic because the clouds finally decided to gift us a thick layer of snow today.

Here's OPI Alpine Snow as a base on all nails with China Glaze Sweet Hook and China Glaze For Audrey for the details.

Winter Pick-Me-Up

Hi friends! Here's another 'sorry I've been away so long' post. I finish this semester in two weeks so once I get through this I'll hopefully be back on track. One of my New Year's resolutions was to work more on this blog so maybe I'll finally get on that.
Thank you to all my new and old followers, I appreciate your continuous support. A special thanks to everyone who has been commenting. I don't have the time or means to comment back but I read all of them in email notifications sent to my phone and appreciate them greatly <3
Here's a manicure inspired by the beautiful designs of so long, kitty. Her flawless gradients and 3D accents are always so stunning. I personally love this look, it's so feminine and pretty. It's the perfect thing to cheer me up during this cold, grueling time of year (:

I started off with China Glaze Sweet Hook and sponged on Essie Van D'Go on the tips. I blended it all together with China Glaze Temptation Carnation and applied the gemstones on top.

Also, to those who celebrate it, Happy Chinese New Year! What are your plans for the rest of the weekend? I'm going to be studying, working on my music projects: a CD, composition, etc., and then I'm out for dinner with my extended family to celebrate the New Year (:

Take care!

All That Glitters

Finally! Something recent! In fact, I'm still wearing this design on my nails as I type. I'll probably remove it later on today though. Winter break ends today so it's back to school tomorrow. I want something less girly-glittery and more edgy-glittery for the occasion :P
This design looked a lot better in my mind, even on paper. I physically drew the whole thing out but the execution went totally awry. The purple polish is getting a bit too old- it was all thick but still sheer and I really had to dunk my brush into the bottle. The bow and ribbons were looking bulky yet see-through and just horrendous. To solve it I covered it all up with some glitter. I wanted to add more definition to the bow but once the glitter was on there that wasn't an option ):

Started things off with Essie Sand Tropez followed by OPI San Tan-Tonio for the polka dots. The bow was done using Essie Nice Is Nice, all covered up with an Art Club purple glitter striping polish.

I quite like this short nail business. Life is so much easier when you don't have to worry about breaking a nail. This length might stick around for awhile...

Whether you've already headed back to school/work or you'll be joining me tomorrow, I hope you have a great start for the new year! x

Frostbite

First off, I hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday and new year. Second, I owe you all an apology for being away so long. School really caught up to me until the very last day before Christmas holiday. After that I spent my Christmas in the Caribbean. I painted my nails there a couple times but nothing special enough to show here. And now here's a funny story...
In all the excitement of New Year's resolutions and whatnot, I looked at my long but breaking nails and said, "I really want to play the guitar!" I can't play guitar with long nails and they were looking all sad anyway so I filed them all down impulsively. They are now the shortest little nubs I have ever seen on my hands and I still suck at guitar :P
But the bright side to this? My nails are a bright red creme! They look so chic, I love it. I would never be able to pull off this colour with my old length. ALSO. I'm thinking of doing a series of designs for short nails because why not? :)

Finally, here's something from the vault that I've been saving until now. It seems perfectly winter wonderland-appropriate now that the ground is blanketed with snow. I find that the iridescent pastel glitter is really pretty  and delicate with this combo.
This was my first time trying out Scandal brand nail polish. It's a brand from Korea that I was able to find by chance at a Korean beauty store. The bottles are very pretty with a corset/dress design similar to Nfu Oh. The formula was ace- thin but pigmented and it flowed very nicely over the nail. I'm looking forward to picking up more colours next time (:
I used a sponging technique for this glitter gradient. You can check out the video tutorial I did for it: "TUTORIAL: Glitter Gradient".

I started off with Scandal Lavender Purple. Then I sponged on Sinful Colors Hottie and a bit of China Glaze Snow Globe on the tips.

Sorry for the lengthy post! I hope to be back up and running soon! x
